We often hear preachers and pastors preach with fierce conviction on the subject of the lust of the flesh and many of us as believers and those whom have not received salvation have been victim to its chains that get longer and heavier to bare as we gain comfort from the thing meant to destroy us becomes our secret lover .
How do we get free from this secret lover comforting our delusions and hidden self destruction that often can only be seen by ourselves and the Lord who faithfully presses in toward us with love and hands of freedom.
What is the lust of the Flesh?
1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
This passage gives us a clear and evident description of what these things look like to the believer; How do we decide we aren't going to be led by our desire to self destruct?
What are some examples of the lust of the flesh?
- Sexual immorality: Acts of the body that are against God's will, such as adultery, fornication, and impurity
- Idolatry: Honoring a creature or thing as if it were God
- Covetousness: A desire for things that belong to others, such as money or power
- Greed: An intense desire for money
- Gluttony: An intense desire for food
-
Drugs and alcohol: Using substances that are harmful to the body
-
Taking eyes off Jesus: Turning away from God and focusing on worldly pleasures
How do we identify the lust of the flesh working intrusively in our lives?
Romans 8:5,6 “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
How do we shake off these chains?
Change what you believe about yourself. Easier said then done . Negative self talk will keep you and I in a cycle of misery as long as we let it . We have to take a stand and choose to be free from the prison's we create for ourselves. Either from some form of trauma or wrong choice that had a lasting affect on our lives we was not capable of seeing or understanding at the time of the decision. Whatever the case may be, from this point forward lets choose together to be who Jesus says we are and not defined by the chains and deceptions of the enemy.
Be who Jesus says you are !
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you,
But his heart is not with you.
